Play Synposis

Prior to the release of the Vatican’s criticism of American nuns, sisters from New York and Pennsylvania came together to share the challenges and purpose they found in religious life. Their tales reveal the deliberate choices and unforeseeable circumstances that led to their calling to live a life apart.
Taking their vows in the years surrounding World War II, they forever changed American institutions and communities. With Vatican II as a catalyst, they adapted to the transformations of the 1960s and the decades to follow.
Based on oral history interviews, the monologues employ the sisters’ own words to confront questions of death, love, faith, and mischief.
